Agentic AI – The Revolution of “Digital Colleagues”

Agentic, or autonomous, self-decision-making artificial intelligence is set to be one of the hottest topics in IT digitalization in 2025. While previous AI systems mostly provided suggestions or automated partial tasks, agentic AI goes a step further: it can independently analyze tasks, make decisions, and carry out complex processes without human intervention.

How is agentic AI different?

  • Autonomy: Not only executes instructions, but also breaks tasks down into steps, prioritizes, optimizes, and, if needed, provides feedback to the human user.
  • Learning and adaptation: Continuously improves its own operation based on its environment and past results.
  • Proactivity: Can identify new problems and initiate solutions on its own (for example, in a business process, it can make suggestions or automatically trigger optimization steps).

How are digital agents used by companies today?

  • Customer service: Independent chatbots that handle complex issues without human support (billing problems, subscription changes, etc.).
  • IT and system operations: AI-based systems automatically manage server scaling, fault detection, and repair processes.
  • Financial processes, audit: Independent agents review transactions, detect anomalies, and prepare audit reports.
  • Marketing: Agentic AIs automatically analyze market trends, optimize ad campaigns, or create personalized offers.

Hungarian and international examples

  • Some Hungarian fintech startups have already introduced independent AI agents for customer identification and fully automated contract signing processes.
  • In large companies (Hungarian subsidiaries of multinational corporations), a significant part of internal helpdesk and IT operations is already supported by autonomous AI systems.
  • International examples: Google, Microsoft, and other tech companies are already using independent developer or office “digital worker” agents that find their own solutions to speed up workflows.

Opportunities and challenges

  • Opportunities: Cost, time, and resource savings, elimination of human errors, greater flexibility in processes.
  • Challenges: Legal liability, transparency, ethical issues (for example, can the AI explain its decisions?), changes in workplace culture, data protection.

What to watch in 2025?

  • Agentic AI is spreading rapidly in the Hungarian market as well – it is worth paying attention to concrete business examples, cost–benefit analyses, and implementation experiences.
  • Pilot projects have also started in education, customer relations, and healthcare: their lessons can be valuable for any business leader involved in digitalization.
  • It is important to continuously measure results during implementation, address emerging ethical issues, and not forget about retraining employees.

Agentic artificial intelligence is therefore not only a technological leap, but also a fundamental change in mindset: in the workplace of the future, we will not only have digital assistants, but real “digital colleagues” who support business processes independently, yet transparently and securely.
