How a foam-products manufacturer achieved end-to-end traceability for a global sporting-goods retailer’s packaging line

RFID at every packing station, barcode plus RFID at palletising, automated labels and SAP integration, rolled out in four phases.

The challenge

A foam-products manufacturer's packaging process for a global sporting-goods retailer lacked end-to-end traceability. Manual label handling caused wrong RFID-to-product pairings and undetected errors, repackaging events were not tracked, and production quantities had to be reconciled by hand between Excel and SAP. No digital system linked RFID tags to individual products, boxes and pallets.

What we did

SWICON designed and delivered a custom product-tracking system covering the full packaging workflow: RFID read and validation at each packing station with traffic-light feedback and shift-manager alerting on error, barcode plus RFID scanning at palletising with box-to-pallet association, automated pallet label printing, a repackaging and damage workflow with tag inactivation and reassignment, SAP production-order import and shift-end export for SAP upload, role-based access, reporting and audit logging.

The result

The system went live in four phases: pilot, full RFID coverage, barcode-plus-RFID palletising, and automated SAP integration. Every product, box and pallet is now traceable, packaging errors are caught at the station, and manual Excel-to-SAP reconciliation is gone.
